This is a big full circle moment for me. For years I’ve been watching the Indie Brawl go down & never would have dreamed that one day I would be entering it myself someday. Then last June, I dropped my debut novel “Gig of the Damned: Slay the Competition” and my lil abomination took off like a glittery bat out of hell. While I now have 2 books under my belt, with one more coming soon, GOTD will forever be special to me. When I looked around at the voices I saw in horror, I wasn’t seeing any that represented mine. Not to the volume I knew I could crank it to at least. I didn’t want the LGBTQ casted as side characters, just to check off a box. I wanted my community to be front and center, where they belonged. Who would I choose to sound the alarm that the gays were coming to play in the splatterpunk puddles of blood & gore? The biggest, the brightest, the shadiest: the drag queens.

While it was an audacious task, I vowed from day one to write “the gayest shit ever” & I said that with my chest. I have not and will not stray from that mission statement. So I took my love for slashers/giallo movies, slapped a wig/some lashes on it, and said “Let’s get sickening.” What I created was a heartfelt love letter to the drag community that features scathing shade, meta-wisecracks, references galore, and a cast of unforgettable drag queens…who I warned you from day 1…I was going to kill one by one. In the most over the top, disgusting, shocking, gag-worthy ways…the way I would imagine they would all want to go out, had they been given the choice. So if you like all the gory details, to laugh at things you know you shouldn’t, and characters that you hate to love/love to hate…you picked a winner baby.

I put my all into this book. I truly put a chunk of my heart, a slice of my soul, and massive bits of my brain into this story. I am honored to know someone wants to read my mind on paper, and I would be honored to have YOU read it as well. *cough* Also, for my lil drag baby to snatch the crown…by any means necessary. 👑 So when the time comes, please consider voting Gig of the Damned: Slay the Competition into the BOH Indie Brawl. She’s ready for her spot in the limelight and she isn’t afraid to get some blood under her claws. 🩸
